The Jornadas de Automática (Automation Conferences) constitute, since its first edition in 1977, an unavoidable event in our country for those of us who focus our professional activity on Automation, in all its dimensions, both from the scientific and academic world and from the business world.

After the last face-to-face Conference, Ferrol 2019, due to the circumstances arising from the current pandemic, Castellón was unable to hold said event as planned in 2020, being reduced to a series of activities developed in virtual mode. Thus, the present edition of Castellón 2021, represents an approach to normality, and for this this Organizing Committee has proposed the first hybrid Conference in its history, where each and every one of the planned activities will be shared, in person and virtually.

This year 2021 the Conference will be held from September 1 to 3 at the Higher School of Technology and Experimental Sciences of the UJI. Throughout these three days we will have various scientific activities, including three plenary sessions, a round table on Artificial Intelligence and another on "women in the professional automatic sector". In addition, as usual, meetings of the different thematic groups, company presentations, and as always, communications presented through poster sessions, among other activities, will take place. In this edition, all these activities will be launched online to enable interaction with virtual participants, having enabled a Web space for digital posters.

We would like to thank all the virtual and face-to-face participants for their invaluable contribution to this event: the authors of the papers presented, the speakers at the plenary sessions and round tables, the Scientific Committee and Scientific Advisory Committee, as well as the companies and collaborating organizations.

We also want to thank CEA, for trusting the Universitat Jaume I as the venue, for the first time in its history, of the two consecutive editions of 2020 and 2021.

Finally, we want to welcome the people attending, face-to-face and virtual, and thank them for their interest in the Conference. The members of the Organizing Committee have made every effort to offer a set of activities that provide them with an enriching experience, not only from a professional perspective, but also from a humanistic dimension, hoping that they will discover and enjoy our city and its surroundings, through the proposed social activities.
